Build a Brand

The greatest "branding" ever achieved was for Kleenex. Kleenex is just another brand of tissue but everyone always refers to tissues as "Kleenex." Another great branding effort comes from Nike. They don't even need to use their name anymore to let their customers know that they have a presence. Nike just uses their "check mark." Another type of branding is tag line branding. When you think of boxy cars, who do you think of? Volvo. Volvo has branded the term "boxy" with their automobiles. You think boxy, you think Volvo.

Branding is all about leaving an impression. Here are some steps that you can take to begin branding your name or your web site.

  1. Create a catchy tag line that leaves an impression.
  2. Include your name and tag line on all of your printed materials. Stationery, business cards, store signage and web site.
  3. Put your name and tag line on radio advertising. Hearing your name and a message makes people remember who you are.
  4. You can do some public relations around your tag line and write some articles to local and trade publications.
  5. On the net, create banner ads that highlight your name and tag line. Trade these banner ads with other web sites.

There are many things that you can do to brand your name. Just remember; include your name and tag line in everything you do, whether you sponsor a little league team, donate to charity or give out an ad specialty item with your name. The most important thing is that you stay consistent and keep striving to get people to create an image of your company in their minds when they hear your tag line or your name.
