Write
an Effective Newsletter
A company newsletter is a very effective way to communicate
with your customers and potential customers. It is a way to advertise your
specials, announce a new product or products and offer your customers valuable
information about your business. And now thanks to affordable desktop publishing
software, laser printers and email, you can create a newsletter right in
your own office.
Before you write and deliver your
first issue, you'll need to gather physical addresses and email addresses
from your clients and prospects. If you have a storefront, put out index
cards for customers to write their contact information and email addresses.
Once you have collected enough leads from interested parties, you can
follow these steps to produce a quality company newsletter.
- Define the objectives and goals of your newsletter.
What are you trying to accomplish and how would you like the reader
to respond?
- Create a relevant and memorable name for your
newsletter. The headline should make the reader think of your company
or product and want to read about it.
- The content of your newsletter should be useful
to your readers. Supply readers with facts and ideas that will get them
thinking and motivated to read further and looking forward to the next
issue.
- Use different types of content to entertain
the reader. You can add contests, helpful hints, relevant quotes and
free advice. The reader should read the most important article, first.
- Proofread. Make sure that you spell every word
correctly and that you choose a type-face and size of type that is easy
to read.
- Use photos and graphics but not too many. A
photograph, chart or graphic image can add flair to your newsletter
but if you are sending through email make sure that the file size of
your images are not too large, they should be less than 15k each. This
will cut down on the load time when the reader downloads their email.
- Urge your readers to respond. Ask your readers
what they think about your newsletter and what types of articles they
would like to read. Contests, polls and surveys are an easy way to keep
your readers involved and coming back for more
